Visit Japan’s former capital cities and be impressed.

Tour overview

day trip from Osaka to Kyoto, visit Japan’s former capital cities, Kyoto and Nara, and be surprised! Depart from Osaka or Kyoto and make your way to Fushimi Inari Taisha, the ideal place to connect with the essence of Kyoto.

Tour itinerary

Depart from Osaka or Kyoto’s unique VIP waiting lounges for Fushimi Inari Taisha. The main shrine structure is designated as an Important Cultural Property, and it houses five shrines that are named after the major attributes of Inari Okami that they exemplify. Inari Okami is renowned as a deity of commercial prosperity, industrial prosperity, household safety, road safety, and progress in the performing arts. The ‘Senbon Torii,’ or 1000 torii gates, were donated by people and businesses, and the donor’s name and the year of giving are etched on the back of each gate.

Then you’ll go to Arashiyama, where the beauty varies with the seasons and you may enjoy it at any time of year, with cherry blossoms in the spring, boat festivals in the summer, crimson foliage in the autumn, and snow-capped mountains in the winter. Arashiyama is also densely packed with temples and shrines, notably the match-making Shrine, which you may visit while strolling through the iconic Bamboo Grove. There are several eateries near the Togetsukyo Bridge, including vegan and Halal options.

Proceed to Kinkakuji, the Golden Pavilion, also known as Rakuon-ji: one of Japan’s most popular structures. Finally, travel to Nara, Japan’s ancient capital, where you will have time to explore its park, pet the world’s most renowned deer, and see Todai-ji Temple, a UNESCO world heritage site. You will find yourself in front of Japan’s largest Buddha statue, which stands 15 meters tall.

Testimonials

This vacation was fantastic! Although I agree with some of the other reviews that the guide didn't speak much English, this wasn't a running commentary tour, so it wasn't a major concern. Michael was really nice and hilarious, and he did his best to answer any questions I had. Instead of shopping during the extended pause, I walked the mountain to the shrine at the summit as part of the tour. It was a long trek, but it was lovely, and there was no one else there! The bus was brand new and pristine, and the driver was fantastic. This was a fantastic day out!

This tour was one of my favorite parts of my trip to Japan. Everything was well-organized, the tour guide, Young, was polite and spoke decent English, and he allowed us plenty of time at each stop to explore. The bus driver was efficient, prompt, and cautious. It would be difficult to choose a favorite stop because I loved them all.
