Tour itinerary

Day 1: BANGKOK—CHIANG MAI—CHIANG RAI—CHIANG SAEN

Arrive at Chiang Mai International Airport. Drive to Chiang Rai, stopping briefly at Mae Kajan Hot Springs and Wat Rong Khun, which is highly recognized for its decorations of white-tone ornamented reflecting mirrors.
Continue to Chiang Saen, the former capital of the first Thai Kingdom, which is located directly on the Mekong River at the Thai-Laos border. Climb 383 stairs to the summit of the hill to visit Wat Phra Dhat Jom Kitti. Visit Wat Chedi Luang and the neighboring tiny museum. Continue upriver on the Mekong by longtail speedboat toward the Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos meet.

 

Day 2: CHIANG SAEN—DOI MAE SALONG—MAE SAI—CHIANG RAI

Depart Chiang Saen for Mae Sai, Thailand’s northernmost town on the Myanmar border. Take a stroll around the local market, which has a plethora of shopping choices. Continue on to the Fish and Monkey Cave. The journey to Doi Mae Salong will thereafter continue over stunning mountain landscapes. Mae Salong is famed for its tea plantations and is located 1800 meters above sea level. There are Chinese temples, ethnic groups, and several open-air bazaars selling Chinese delicacies such as tea and locally cultivated preserved fruits. Drive to Chiang Rai after lunch to see the Black House (Baan Dam). Thawan Duchanee, a national artist, designed this amazing building. Baan is a half art studio, part museum, and part residence. Day 3: CHIANG RAI—THATORN—HMONG HILL TRIBE LODGE

Leave the hotel for the boat landing. Board modest longtail motorboats for a three-hour trip up the Kok River, passing through tiny hill tribe communities, bamboo homes, and forest landscapes. After lunch, go to Wat Thatorn, a big temple complex in a beautiful location just a few kilometers from the border with Myanmar. The temple is situated on a hill overlooking Ban Thaton town and the Mae Kok River.

Day 4:HMONG HILLTRIBE LODGE—CHIANG MAI

Take the road to Elephant POOPOO PAPER Park. An eco-friendly, organically constructed outdoor museum park that presents and explains the unique methods involved in producing paper from elephant excrement fibers. to continue Dara Pirom Palace Museum (Monday closed). A magnificent mansion of the late Princess Jao Dara Rasamee, one of King Rama V’s princess consorts, has been turned into a museum with displays depicting the palace décor as well as Chiang Mai’s rich culture and history during her lifetime.

Day 5: CHIANG MAI—BANGKOK

Visit the most interesting temples in Chiang Mai, such as Wat Phra Singh, which houses the famous Buddha image, Wat Chiang Man, which was built by King Mangrai, and Wat Suan Dok, which houses the remains of many generations of the old Chiang Mai Royal Family. Visit Wat Doi Suthep, which is located in the highlands at 1,056 meters above sea level.
