Nan remains off the beaten route in Thailand: picturesque and isolated, the capital of the same-named province is well-known domestically for its antique architecture, attractive setting within fascinating natural grandeur, and peacefulness. After receiving its kingdom status, the region developed its own culture and often nuanced values that are prevalent and can undoubtedly brag of being unique. The abundance of tropical lushness, in particular, draws a rising number of visitors to Nan; after all, the mountains and forest regions cover over 75% of the province. Experience what can only be described as a step back in time with Buddhist relics dotted around the ever-present Nan River for three days and two nights.

After being greeted by your English-speaking guide at Nan Airport, you will immediately depart for lunch before the trip begins. The base for touring Nan cannot be better than the previously abandoned Wat Ming Muang, erected in 1857 by the former monarch of the Nan Kingdom, Chao Anantaworaritthidej. Wat Phumin, famed for its magnificent paintings, is the next most well-known temple. The first day concludes with temples with a distinct mood, such as the Sukhothai-inspired Wat Chang Kham Woravihan and the mountain temple of Wat Pratardnoi. Those with any energy could definitely ride their bikes about town before calling it a night. Dinner is on your own accord.

Before the sun sets, it is highly recommended that you join your guide and the local community in Nan for an almsgiving experience. After breakfast at your accommodation, day 2 begins with a visit to Wat Nong Bua, notably the paintings depicting life in a bygone age. The day will now follow the path of natural beauty with visits to the primeval forests of Doi Phuk Ka National Park, the salt-winning field at Bo Klua, a unique natural source of rock salt that has made Nan province one of the region’s largest producers of salt. This day will not be complete until we enter the Nong Bua village borders. This day will not be complete unless we enter the village borders of Nong Bua Thai Lue Village, which is famous for its handwoven fabrics. This day includes lunch and dinner at a local restaurant before returning you to your accommodation.

On the final day of your Nan adventure; after breakfast, check out of the guesthouse and proceed to Wat Phrathat Chae Haeng. Before it was relocated to its current location, this temple was the focal point of Nan Town. Locals see this temple as an essential component of their legacy, dating back to the days when Nan was an autonomous kingdom. It’s time to return to Nan Airport to catch your trip back to Bangkok.

Day 2: Nan

Get up and shine! An early start is an excellent opportunity to make merit with the monks. Thai Buddhists believe that by generating merit, people acquire happiness, tranquillity in life, and the opportunity to grow in the next life, while this sacred experience offers a pleasant manner for everybody to begin the day.

Before traveling to Wat Nong Bua, we return to the guesthouse for breakfast. Thai Lue, who moved from Sib Song Pan Na Province in South China, erected this ancient temple. This temple is well-known for its mural paintings, which depict the socioeconomic level of the inhabitants of the period. We arrive in Nong Bua Thai Lue after a short trip; its villages are famous for producing gorgeous indigenous cloth hand weaving.

Doi Phuk Ka National Park, one of Thailand’s primeval woods, includes an incredibly scenic location named Lan Do Dao (English as Stargazing Field). This national park is home to the incredibly rare petrified Phu Ka Tree, which has a variety of strange blooms rising upwards that bloom only in February.

Lunch will be served on the way at a local restaurant as a nice break before continuing on to the Bo Klua district, an important salt-producing sector of Nan, and returning to your hotel in Nan.
